Interview process lasted for more than three months. Most interesting and fun part of the interview process were; the position was on hold for 2 months, contact HR personals got changed few times, the hiring team went through restructuring, focus of the role got changed and most of all hiring team seem to be very unclear of what the role entails and how soon they would like to hire someone.
First round of discussions were with HR and it was pretty straight forward background review interview i.e. why you are interested in this role, how your background fits etc.
Second round was with the hiring team. Most fun facts about this round are; the Interviewer got changed from one to another, interview date and time got changed almost 6 times and that too at the last minute - very unprofessional. The first couple of times interviewer just didn't call at all - very frustrating. Finally after a month a a half of waiting and following up the Second round interview took place(which after getting rescheduled for few times, started 25 minutes late). This round can be someone from the hiring team i.e. a hiring manager or a fellow colleague - questions were technical and scenario based.
Third round of the interview and the most painful of all was with a potential hiring manager – interview started with a very negative tone of voice and questions throughout were targeted to put you down and under unnecessary criticism about your background & experience e.x. Instead of figuring out a mutual fit by learning about interviewee's experience & background i was more like - tell me something I don't know about my website. Some questions(asked indirectly) were quite strange such as why did you apply for job? We’d like to hire someone from large eCommerce space i.e. AMAZON, why would you bother applying?. We already have that on our site or we're already doing that etc. All and all the impression that the Interviewer gave was that they are under serious pressure to hire a "rocket scientist" and that too from a competition, or in other words "we don't know what we are looking for but we will criticize and judge someone who's seriously interested in this role and can help us - well, good luck!!
Overall impression of the Interview process and the hiring team: very unprofessional, serious lack of practical know-how of the business, unclear process. Despite of Interviewers being completely inexperienced in what innovation is/means they still are very unappreciative of the wealth of knowledge & experience that someone can bring, and most of all they very short sighted in terms of who they want to hire i.e. someone from amazon.
