I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Forge (San Francisco, CA)
Interview
Intro, tech screen, another tech screen?? IMO a bizarre process with multiple tech screens. It's as if they just want to keep throwing LC/Hackerrank questions at you until you mess up. Solved the first tech screen (LC question) just fine and answered all followup questions as well. Next screen was another LC question that I wasn't too familiar with, but ended up in solving it and answered followup questions, in my opinion, properly as well.
That aside, the folks in the tech interviews didn't seem too prepared in terms of follow up questions. The second screen the interviewer seemingly just picked a random LC question since even they weren't familiar with it. Disappointing overall to say the least.
Unprofessional is the best way to describe my experience with this HR recruiter. It all starts with the typical Spam email you get from having a linkedin account. It was more than obvious they are more interested in playing the numbers game, the more developers you reach out to maybe someone will respond. I took the bait and the first thing the recruiter does is forward me to yet another recruiter.
I have a call with the second recruiter and all seems well. I was told there was mutual interest and the next step would be to schedule the technical phone screen. I shoot over a couple dates, and get no response. I follow up on two separate occasions and over a month go by. No response. Complete radio silence. A simple response saying the job was filled or the role is not a good fit would be resectable and honest. But to get no response at all is a good example and a warning to all developers to not work for this company. They practice a sleazy recruiting process. Just think if the HR team is this disrespectful imagine how bad the rest of the company will be. Advice to anyone who gets that SPAM email. Delete the email immediately and mark the email as spam. Do NOT waste your time.
I applied through a staffing agency. I interviewed at Forge in Dec 2019
Interview
Got contacted through an external recruiter. First round with their own recruiter after that and then a phone interview with their Engg. Manager. Clearly told them I haven't worked in Scala and they were ok with it. They rejected after phone screen because of lack of Scala experience. Just wasted my time and energy. They just seem to think they can take candidates' time for granted.
We would like to thank you for your interest in Forge, taking the time to interview with us and for your feedback here. We pride ourselves on a positive candidate experience so we welcome all feedback.
For the first technical screening portion of our interviews, we allow the candidate to choose the environment and language they are most comfortable with and test for coding productivity and technical communication. If a candidate does not have Scala experience we assess in the language of their choice.
We appreciate you taking the time to review our interview process. We would love to connect offline to talk through any other feedback you may have and provide more clarity around your interview. Please reach out directly to the Forge Recruiting Team if you are interested. We wish you the best in your job search.
Sincerely, Forge People Team
