      Sales Interview

      20 Dec 2020
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Formlabs in Sept 2018

      Interview

Weirdest interview I've gone through in recent years. Interviewer, a group leader in the company with an impressive pedigree, sounded like he was trying to 3D print me into his ideal hire. Probably doing this to others : 1-3-1, Intro, Skill Dive, Admin. Interviewer reminded me that this was a conversational interview in which we were both evaluating eachother as a potential fit; the style actually skewed omnidirectionally towards didactic / pedantic. The middle third of the interview involved me sequentially being probed for evidence of skills and experience that in no way, shape, or form proclaimed themselves in my professional profile. I felt the urge to bow out, but I forged ahead b/c social conventions. Comparable to an attorney interviewing for a legal job in which the interviewer asks the applicant about his / her thoracic surgery acumen or experience mining rare earth metals, as these are an unpublished "nice-to-have" for the role, this went on, awkwardly, for fifteen minutes. The cherry on the cake was when, at the very end ("Admin"), in spite of a decade and a half of every educational / professional line items on my resume occurring within 2 cities in the United States dating back to high school, he asked if I was authorized or would ever need to be sponsored to work in the USA. If I could pin a Peter Gregory gif to this review, I would.

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Formlabs

      Interview

Structured, in depth. Lots of fit questions as well as past performance. Role play and mini project. Met with multiple people on the team. Was good to see how they value the process of selecting new team members.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Formlabs

      Interview

Initial phone screening followed by on site meeting with members of the sales team. Second on site meeting with CEO and sales team. My comment would be that this company is only looking to interview in order to satisfy quota. They do not respect the applicants time indicated by the fact that after multiple on site interviews was told the position no longer exists. This was either not the real reason or this shows a lack of organization and respect for the applicants time.

Hello - thanks for sharing your feedback. I'm very sorry that your experience interviewing with us wasn't a positive one. We know that candidates put a huge amount of time and effort into interviewing here and we never want people to feel disrespected. Fast growth means that our best-laid plans, even around hiring, can quickly change, which you unfortunately experienced first-hand. However, we're working hard to make sure that this won't happen again and appreciate your feedback on this issue. Best, Caitlin, People Ops
