I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Front Royal, VA in Sept 2021
Interview
The first two steps of the hiring process after submitting your application will be a formalized written test followed by a physical agility test. If you successfully complete both of those, you will be offered an interview with a background detective who will conduct a pre-screen interiew with you that basically reviews your background packet that was turned in at the time of the written test. Within a couple weeks of successfully completing the "pre-screen interview", applicants will be scheduled for a formal panel interview. There will likely be department Administrative & supervisory staff present (Captains & Sergeants). They'll ask you about a dozen questions that aren't technical or require criminal justice knowledge, but are more geared to your personality traits and rather they feel you could handle the stress of being a cop. The interview I had only lasted about 45 minutes.
