      Game Designer Interview

      15 Jun 2015
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at FunPlus

      Interview

I was informed about the company from an external recruiter and was given a phone screen pretty quickly. After a few mishaps of scheduling on their end I finally ended up with a phone screen which was overall very pleasant and went well. We swapped some game recommendations and I was told I'd done well and would be emailed a skills test that afternoon and it would ideal if I could return it completed by the end of the weekend. I didn't receive anything, and after multiple emails over the course of the following week to which I got no response I gave up, it was pretty clear they were either unprofessional and had no interest in me at all, or were super disorganized and couldn't get an applicant through the system. The interviewer was nice and seemed like a really solid dude, but I would not recommend applying to the company. It ended up wasting a lot of my time and theirs.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at FunPlus (San Francisco, CA) in Apr 2015

      Interview

Seemed poorly organized. The people were nice, but it almost seemed like they didn't know I was there for an interview. One of the interviewers told me they thought I was perfect for the job. The follow-up was atrocious. After 2 weeks of not hearing anything, I contacted them because I had other job offers and I wanted to know where they were in the process. No response. I contacted them again 4 weeks later. I finally got an email asking me if I was still looking for a job. I responded and said I was still interested. Then I never heard back again. Finally, I just figured they were either not interested, not ready, or poorly organized, and decided to move on.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at FunPlus

      Interview

Phone screen, followed by in-person interview. Asked about specific games in their portfolio - what works, what doesn't? Asked about specific game mechanics - what works, what doesn't? Overall, they were very nice and upfront about their company culture. They want to find a good fit for their culture.
