Commercial Analytics and Forecasting Senior Manager Interview

      10 Apr 2026

      Declined offer

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at GRAIL

      Interview

The interview process itself was fine, just very lengthy (6 weeks from first interview to receiving an offer). I accepted and signed a formal offer for a Senior Manager role. However, immediately after signing the offer letter and once the onboarding process began, I discovered the company had mapped the role internally as a "Sales Operations Analyst". When I raised this, the explanation provided was that their internal structure classifies roles without direct reports as "Analysts," regardless of the "Senior Manager" title on the signed offer letter. I was assured that my "outward facing" title was still Sr. Manager and the responsibilities of the role would not change. I don't know if this is a biotech industry specific thing, but I was not convinced this actually was a senior role as advertised, as I never encountered a 2-title role in my 20+ years of career before. Not to mention, I did not see how a Sr. Manager could be equivalent to a Sales Analyst. I did rescind the acceptance of the offer afterwards. What further reinforced my suspicions that this was never a senior role to begin with, is the fact that the same exact opening (after I rescinded my acceptance) is currently being posted with a "Manager" title, which is already downgraded from Senior Manager If your professional title and seniority level matter to you, do not take the job posting title at face value. Explicitly ask what the "Internal Title" or "Workday Grade" will be before you sign / start the interview process. In my case, the discrepancy was a material change from the role I interviewed for. Be careful of "Title Inflation".

Thank you for sharing your experience. We’re sorry to hear that there was confusion around the role title during your process. At GRAIL, some roles have both an external-facing title and an internal job architecture level used for compensation and leveling consistency across the organization. We aim to be transparent about both throughout the interview process so candidates can make fully informed decisions. Based on feedback like yours, we are taking steps to further align our job postings and ensure greater clarity around role scope, level, and internal titling earlier in the process. We appreciate you taking the time to share your perspective and wish you the best in your continued career.
