      Field Account Manager Interview

      13 Jun 2019
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Atlanta, GA
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at GitLab (Atlanta, GA) in May 2019

      Interview

I applied online and was contacted by a recruiter via email in less than 24 hours to setup a 30-minute screener call. The call was scheduled for later in the week and was fairly quick. The recruiter asked some generic questions on where I was located, salary expectations, and a general STAR question asking to name a time I failed and what I did to handle the failure. After we were finished, she let me know that the next step would be a call with the hiring manager. Their Candidate Experience group contacted me to share my availability and a 45-minute video call was scheduled for the following week. The call with the hiring manager went well. The questions were pretty standard to a normal interview process of speaking to my experience and history while also learning about the position and company. At the end of the interview, she stated she wanted to have me continue the interview process by speaking with several other team members. Within a day, the Candidate Experience group scheduled a total of four additional, 45-minute, video calls with members of the Field Marketing team as well as stakeholders within the regional Sales team. Each call was fairly standard, some more conversational than a formal interview process, but overall, great conversions throughout. I found each team member to be very passionate about the company and genuinely interested in getting to know me not only as a potential work colleague but on a personal level as well. The morning of my final video interview, I asked the recruiter what the next steps would be to which she stated the interview panel would regroup in a few days and then there would be a potential call with the CMO, references and a background check. A few days after completing my last scheduled interview, I followed up to the recruiter but did not receive a response. I sent a second follow up the following week and again, was unable to get a response. At that point, I decided to email the hiring manager and she let me know that they were not going to proceed with my candidacy. The reasoning stated was that they were moving forward with other candidates who had specific field marketing experience. While I did feel I could perform the duties of the job and had enough relevant experience, I also understand that they received several worthy applications, some of which had the exact background they were looking for. To those that have been discouraged and upset at receiving no response after their interviews, you need to understand that most jobs today receive hundreds, if not thousands, of applications, especially for roles that are remote. I do not think them not responding is intentional, I think that they move quickly and if you are not the fit they are looking for, they proceed with who is. While I was bummed I did not get an offer, overall it was a good experience. The interview process was length but I think for a company that is 100% remote, they needing to be very thorough and are looking for the perfect match to their respective teams. If a role opens down the line, I will absolutely apply again.
