      Enterprise Account Executive Interview

      3 Jun 2023
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at Grafana Labs

      Interview

There were multiple [unnecessary and repetitive] calls were with the same person. Glassdoor won’t let me use their title so it’ll have to be “person”. This person continued scheduling additional "follow ups" for no apparent reason while not progressing me to the next step nor rejecting my candidacy. It appeared that he was not even sure what he wanted me to prepare despite me asking several times and kept repeating that I need a "really good answer for WHY GRAFANA". Let me honestly answer it now for you - it's a JOB. People work for money, not because your startup is so special. I did my research and understood that Grafana had a good product that I'd love selling because I have been in this space for years and know the game. I also have built my rolodex to hit the ground running as soon as I'm out of the training. Period. Telling a candidate to prepare a bulletproof speech for [you to vet before you progress me to] the interview with the next person about why I want to work for your company is immature. It just tells me that you want a yes man that, if hired, will be good at telling you and the upper management only what they want to hear even if the answer is obviously dishonest and made up. I'm sorry I didn't tell you what you wanted to hear. I'm a quota crusher with a long proven track record of success, and Grafana wasted a lot of my time over several weeks during the process.

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Grafana Labs (San Francisco, CA)

      Interview

Overall rating: 1 star out of 5 Summary: The interview process at Grafana Labs is lengthy and demanding, with a strong emphasis on technical expertise and a deep understanding of their go-to-market strategy and limitations. While the company's commitment to hiring top talent is admirable, the interview process itself could benefit from a more balanced approach that considers both technical skills and cultural fit. Furthermore, Grafana Labs faces increasing competition from DataDog, Splunk, and App Dynamics, making it crucial for them to generate new pipelines and expand their customer base. The company's focus on hiring highly skilled individuals is understandable, but it's essential to strike a balance between technical expertise and cultural fit to ensure a positive and productive work environment. The executive sales and presales leadership's approach to the interview process conveyed a sense of entitlement that I found off-putting. Details: • The interview process took several weeks and involved multiple calls, a personality profile assessment, and at least 40-50 hours of preparation. • I had to complete four separate interviews with the recruiter, hiring manager, sales leadership, presale, a panel of three first-line managers, and a final sales process interview. • The hiring manager coached me on where to invest my time and energy, but I still felt like I was constantly scrambling to keep up with their demands. • To move forward in the interview process, I had to demonstrate a deep understanding of the tech stack and their go-to-market strategy. • One of the sales leaders behaved unprofessionally, abrasively, and dismissively during our interactions. I would be hesitant to collaborate with them, especially if I had a differing approach or fact-based opinion, or if they were to represent the company in front of clients. • The final interview required me to provide a deep analysis of five accounts I would target for sales and explain my strategy for penetrating them. This felt like I was being asked to provide free consulting to the company. • I would advise Grafana Labs to focus on leading from the front and solving their client's needs instead of micromanaging their employees. Overall, my experience interviewing with Grafana Labs was extremely negative. I would not recommend this company to anyone seeking a positive, collaborative, and productive work environment.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

This was the easy stuff. As the interviews went on they wanted to dig into each category and understand if you are a hunter and can sell to multiple stakeholders. Pipeline growth and deal closure are their biggest obstacles to growing the company Motivations for seeking a new opportunity? Interest in Grafana Labs? Strategies to prioritize accounts? Criteria for tiering accounts? Methods to research target accounts? Techniques to identify business initiatives? Strategies for initiating conversations? Channels used for pipeline generation? Approach to maintaining a productive pipeline? Application of sales methodologies? Techniques for deal qualification? Identification and validation of champions? Strategies for champion cultivation and support? Approaches to navigating complex organizations? Techniques for engaging executive-level stakeholders

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Grafana Labs in Jan 2020

      Interview

I was reached out to by the hiring manager on LinkedIn! It was a very smooth and easy process with interviews scheduled well. I had about 5-6 interviews in total with the HM, VP of sales, Panel interview of sales presentation, COO and finally HR! Loved the feedback given and how candid it was. Everyone was super supportive throughout the process.
