I had an interview here that I still think about because of how degrading it was. I was overqualified for the position, but I believe due to my age and youthfulness, I was disregarded entirely. I think I may have been discriminated against as I was talked down to during the duration of the interview. I have never felt like this is any other interview I have had.
The interviewer made numerous comments about my resume where she did not believe I had the experience I had. She kept questioning everything. I provided my answers along with strong evidence of my experience. And she would state comments along the lines of “you did this?” “You know an attorney won’t just hand you the information here right?” Anytime I stated that I was the one who did all of the heavy lifting, she would go but someone did it for you right?
Please note this was over pulling property tax bills (which are public record in almost every state and county). Additionally with my background, I had to be an expert in title, real estate law, taxes, knowing multiple parcels, knowing the various property taxes (school, county, city, village, etc.).
No matter what answer I provided, the interviewer did not listen and questioned my capability. Stating how young I am and no one here will do the work for me / pull the information for me. Explaining how hard this job was when I was doing 5x the work at a law firm that specialized in real estate.
