A recruiter reached out to me on LinkedIn asking me if I wanted to apply. I am passionate about the issues GSN works on, so I threw my hat into the ring. I met with a second-party recruiter, and then a panel of GSN staff. Then they asked me to create a sample marketing deck which I had to present to another panel.
That panel was kind of odd. One of the hiring committee members acted like my ideas were not that unique but when I searched their feeds, I didn't see evidence that they were already leveraging those tactics. This was a little insulting. Moreover, many of the questions they asked were vaguely worded and therefore difficult to answer.
After that third interview, I waited several weeks with no follow-up. I finally had to reach out on my own, to learn I wasn't accepted.
Advice for GSN: Word your interview questions more clearly and express more obvious gratitude for applicants who are putting a ton of time and labor into these processes. Also be more open-minded to applicants who are shifting career focuses. You don't HAVE to be an affordable housing expert to do this job--people can learn these issues!
