We apologize that you had a poor interview experience with Gusto, and we'll be reviewing recent interviews to take action on this feedback.
That said, we don't restrict any candidates to particular languages in our technical screens. Candidates are given the choice to complete the exercise in the language they feel most comfortable interviewing in, and we've seen folks be successful using a range of languages (C++, Java, Python, JS). We don't evaluate based on language proficiency - most engineers that interview at and/or join Gusto actually have no experience in Ruby or JS. We appreciate your feedback and will be flagging to interviewers to make sure future candidates don't feel pressured to code in a specific language.
