I applied online. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at H E B (Houston, TX) in Nov 2012
Interview
Filled out an application online. Got called in for a group interview. Mostly everyone there said they had had an phone interview, though I didn't. We sat in a semi circle thing, and we were asked to make name cards, then you draw a picture of what you see your self doing at HEB and then answer six questions. You stand up and present your picture to everyone and explain it, then say you'r answers to the questions. After you're sorted into a group and you have to do an commercial or skit for the HEB meal deal. They ask if anyone has any questions and then you're told that you'll get a call back within 48 hours if you've been selected for the final interview.

Question 1
Questions included why do you want to work at HEB, what words describe you, what's a fact you know about HEB, tell us something interesting about yourself, what job wouldn't you want to do at HEB, and one other I can't remember.
It was an online format. Personal video recording responding to basic interview prompts. There was also a small competency examination to test for basic math and reading skills as well as some personality questions.

They asked about a time when you had to interact with a disgruntled customer
The interview process was pretty straightforward, I got in on a staffing agency that was hiring to fill positions for a new store opening. I had a group interview, then a one on one interview and was offered a position.
