I got referred internally and first had a HR call, then an in-person interview with the hiring manager. all of this was within a few weeks, which is short compared to the process at MIT

Interview
I've interviewed for a few jobs here. At best they're disinterested, at worst this place is maybe unethical/shady in the way they are going about their hiring process. Usually you'll go through several rounds of interviews, even for basic entry level positions, with various members of the team you would be working on. The process is usually fairly long and drawn out. Then, if you don't get the job (which I didn't) you'll get ghosted for like two weeks before eventually getting a rejection.
The interviewers will vary in their politeness. Sometimes they literally seem to be reading from a sheet of questions and it's not like a real conversation. Occasionally I've had a decently pleasant conversation but there are times when I walk away from the interview feeling as though they barely asked me anything, only to get a rejection pretty quickly. The worst was my most recent interview in which the interviewer said they'd have to "see if it would work" because I was older than their average candidate for the position. I was surprised that there was such blatant and unabashed age discrimination at what I assume is an institution that probably carefully protects its reputation.
In the same process, they said they were checking my references, including contacting my current supervisor, and then ghosted me until I followed up weeks later. Thank goodness my supervisor is understanding or they could have cost me my job.
So proceed with caution if you choose to apply for a job here, because they truly don't care about your feelings as a human or your ability to maintain your current employment.

Interview
The interview was a great, multi-round interview process. Second interview was with two directors from the department. The interview felt like a conversation between colleagues, it was very professional but easy going. The pacing in-between interviews and communication after each interview was slightly too long.
