Submitted my application online in January 2017. Received a call from HR and scheduled an over-the-phone interview set for February 2017. Interview was conducted by both the Director and Manager of 3rd floor Med Surg/Tele. Comfortable interview and questions were geared towards a New Grad/Entry Level RN.
At the end of the interview, and after asking a few questions, I was informed that the Med Surg/Tele floor has approximately 30 beds and its main population is that of elderly patients. Floor is a fast-paced, high-acuity environment with numerous amount of admissions and discharges (sometimes 17 discharges and then close to 17 new admissions per shift). Patient issues include: Post-op knee/hip replacement, ETOH withdrawal, Sepsis, Dementia, Alzheimer's, Heart arrhythmias, Diabetes, Stroke, MI/Heart attack, MRSA, C-diff, etc. Med-Surg patient/nurse ratio is usually 6:1 and Telemetry is 5:1, sometimes going 6:1. Team lead (Charge RN) does have their own patient load. Floor is mostly staffed with New Grad RNs.
