I received a call from a recruiter after submitting my application & cover letter just to ask me a few more questions such as availability, core qualifications, and to go over the general job description to see if I was a suitable candidate. That was later followed up by a formal invitation for an in person interview at their facility. At that interview I filled out some more paperwork and discussed the job more in depth with a shift manger and was then shown the workplace. I left my references and was told I would hear back from HR early the following week. I didn't end up hearing anything until the week after and that was a generic rejection email coming from a no reply box.

Very simple, I received a phone call answered basic questions and was asked to give my availability. They also asked basic questions to verify who I was and gave an overview of the position.
