      Product Manager Interview

      1 May 2017
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

      I interviewed at Helpshift

      Interview

Pretty standard phone screen for me with the hiring manager. The company sounded chaotic based on what I heard from the hiring manager. Most disappointing was the fact that I never got an update from them about my interview, I never heard back.

      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Helpshift (San Francisco, CA) in Jun 2017

      Interview

Video Conference to check skills and and background. If you do well in the video conference you will be given an assignment to do. If they like the way you solved the problem int he assignment you will be invited to come onsite. On site I met with a PM and he asked the basic questions about work history and previous experience. Then i met with the head of Product and he was a bit tougher but nothing too complicated. Lastly I met with the founder that ask me about my background and I gave him a 7 min highlight of my career. He stopped me at the end and said You're an entrepreneur why do you want to work here? i explained that I do build products for fun in my free time. And he somehow grew outraged and said "NO"!! not here you won't! this is not a 9-5 ! he exclaimed that he needed someone that was dedicated that would not work on side projects. I explained to him that i was single and had no kids and don't own a TV. Building things on the side is what i do for fun. He just didn't give me a chance after this..He said NO NO NO, i don't want to work with people like you with side projects because you're not serious. For the life of me i couldn't understand why this man thought that he could control what i do outside of work on my own time. Seems like a train crash waiting to happen. As i left I remember the first guy that interviewed me told me that he left the company a while back to start his own company and then he came back after it failed. So i'm not sure what to think about that.
