I initially spoke with a recruiter who was professional, engaging, and very helpful throughout our conversation. They did an excellent job of presenting the opportunity and left me feeling genuinely interested in progressing further with the company.
Unfortunately, my experience in the subsequent interview with the Managing Director was the complete opposite. Rather than feeling like a constructive, two-way discussion, the interview felt more like a one-sided grilling. During the conversation, while I was explaining my background and experience, the Managing Director appeared distracted at times, which came across as unprofessional and made the interaction feel uncomfortable.
I was asked about my background and key skills, but my responses were quickly challenged in a way that felt dismissive rather than constructive. The discussion then shifted toward negative remarks about my previous company, including comments around its performance and ways of working, which felt unnecessary and not relevant to assessing my suitability for the role.
It felt at times that the focus was less on understanding my experience and more on gathering insight into my previous company. The overall tone of the interview came across as condescending, and I left the conversation feeling uneasy and spoken down to.
I fully understand that not every role will be the right fit, and rejection is part of the process. However, the way this interview was conducted meant that I had no desire to pursue the opportunity further. The call ended quite abruptly, with little engagement beyond a brief thank you for my time.
It’s disappointing, as the initial interaction set a very positive expectation. However, based on my experience, I would not feel comfortable recommending this company to others.

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Higher Group
Interview
Do not bother with this firm. Period. They are sleazy, unprofessional, and unfortunately, the only impact they make is furthering the negative reputation that recruiters have. If the firm does end up reading this, my advice to you- get your things together. If you can’t, stop wasting air.

Only super important, relevant questions that clearly demonstrated the recruiters professional understanding of the industry. (That was complete sarcasm)
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Higher Group (London, England) in Dec 2022
Interview
Interviewed by Higher Group, a rec2rec company, for a search director/partner role at one of their clients. Very thorough questioning by the consultant, asking about career history, achievements and ambitions; and carefully comparing to the client brief he'd been given.
