I applied through university. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Hilcorp Energy (Victoria, TX) in Feb 2010
Interview
This was a standard interview at a university to try to get an intern job for the summer as a petroleum engineer. Hilcorp personnel were extremely nice and friendly, but they did not have many positions to fill, so most interviewed knew that nothing was coming to come of the interview. Only advice is to know what you are talkiing about and be enthusiastic.

Only questions had to do with technical knowledge and grades.
I applied through university. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Hilcorp Energy (Austin, TX) in Jan 2020
Interview
Started out pretty standard, went through resume; various small talk. Engineer guy was really chill and nice. A few situational questions, but nothing technical. Overall, I’d say they’re looking for someone who’s going to stick with petroleum engineering and really has a passion for the discipline.
If you want to be truly prepared for an internship interview with this company, read the “Great Game of Business”. Everything about Hilcorp is framed in that book. If you accept their offer, you’ll get a copy at corporate orientation. Highly recommend reading it.
