The Human Resources recruiter called to do a quick phone interview with general questions about work history and salary expectations. He was quite friendly. I had to fill out a 'personality assessment' online. Later an IT manager called with another phone interview screening, and set up the interview time then.
The actual interview had a several technical staff and a couple of managers. The panel of interviewers were friendly, as well.
Although I was well qualified for the position, they did not offer me the job.
I have found something peculiar in Reno that was not a problem in California or the Northeast where I have worked previously. I found that the technical staff tends to be less sophisticated in their range of experience and abilities, which is not a bad thing, except that they tend to be threatened by anyone more experienced or skilled. They seem to be uncomfortable with highly skilled applicants and prefer less talented people, oddly enough.
My suggestion to anyone applying for these positions is to dumb it down - don't talk about cutting edge technologies in front of these folks and downplay your experience.
Note that although the position was listed as a Database Administrator, it actually was more of a data analyst or data management position.
