I interviewed at How To MANAGE a Small Law Firm (Boise, ID)
Interview
It was long and thorough, but warm. The people did a great job of managing my expectations for working in the role/with the company. I felt like a valuable human being, going through an ethical process to determine if I was a good fit for them culturally. I loved that they were so protective of their staff, and their community.
I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at How To MANAGE a Small Law Firm (Miami, FL) in Jan 2025
Interview
A disrespectful interview process suggesting a company full of red flags that preys on desperate coaches.
Five rounds of interviews with a 25-question test that took 3-4 hours to complete. The test had multiple exhaustive hypothetical scenarios, trick questions designed to catch people off guard, an irrelevant question designed for someone in a completely different role, and a condescending tone.
Allegedly, the test is designed to save time, but the interview immediately following was a full hour and another round following was slated for 90 minutes with MORE hypothetical scenarios.
Other red flags that revealed themselves as the interview process progressed:
- In the screening interview, I was told the minimum client load was 70, but a $33,000 bonus existed for talking on 75 total. In the later interview, I was told that coaches are expected to carry the full load of 75 and even carrying 70 would not be acceptable. …That’s not how bonuses work.
- The estimated hours are 50-60 a week in the first year and 40-50 after that. The expectation is that you take one “blackout week” per year, meaning a full week without contact to/from the company. Isn’t that just called vacation time? Does that mean you’re expected to be on call for your other PTO?
- You are in charge of taking on more clients within the company. After your initial assignments, the way to take on more clients is by attending their quarterly, in-person trainings. There, you hold office hours so clients can get to know you and request you as their coach. However, you won’t receive additional pay for attending nor will they reimburse your travel expenses bc it’s technically optional to attend.
Now, I’ve been a business coach for years and consulted on talent recruitment and retention. This sounded like a sweatshop environment.
The impression I got was that the interview process is designed to screen for financially desperate coaches who are willing to tolerate a humongous amount of bull. That way, the company can continue to pile it on once those desperate coaches are hired rather than changing their requirements to create a respectful, human-centric environment for their workers.
Please think twice about how much that salary is really worth. You cannot put a price tag on your health.

Question 1
Hypothetical scenarios asking what you would advise or questions you would ask the client or their financial advisor. If you had to pick an inspirational person(s) to have over for dinner, who would it be and why? How much time do you think the assessment will save you in the interview process? How many typos are in the questionnaire? (Truck question you’re not meant to have an answer for)
Dear Interviewee,
We respectfully disagree with your assessment of our strategy, our intentions, our morals, our panache, and our sense of humor. We believe the written interview is delightful and did its job for you, and also for us.

Interview
There was a phone interview, a request for a video presentation, an online/zoom Interview and a twenty-five question quiz. The Quiz was fun and challenging. Each question had a scenario setup and multiple parts. Really made one think.
