I was cold called for a paralegal position. It was not clear at first that I was being interviewed by a recruiter. I was asked a salary range on that first call and I responded that I would not accept less than <40K. The recruiter said it was within the clients budget. Then, I was told it was urgent to get into the office to meet with them and despite them knowing I was coming in from out of state I was met with yet another recruiter who would inform me that the role paid $32K. A few hours after the meeting I sent them an email asking about any flexibility in the salary and they responded with something along the lines of "We don't have the role anymore" ?? They also made me give them copies of my passport and fill out an invasive questionnaire more thorough than any I have seen before. Something I am regretting as they do not seem to be legit at all. In fact, while I was at their shared office space there was another woman who came in and actually refused to give out her social security until she had more information. Apparently she had been duped into thinking she was meeting with someone from the actual hiring company as well.
