At IKEA there are different hire levels that guarantee different hours (HL1=12-20 hrs, HL2=20-32 hrs, HL3=40 hrs). It seems like a great idea for retail, but they REFUSE to let us work more than our "hire level." I was currently a HL2, with 2+ years experience, but I had to apply for this position, even though this is NOT a promotion and does NOT come with a raise. I asked “Hypothetically speaking, if I am given the HL3, could you/would you/ are you allowed to bring in this other candidate immediately so that our department is properly staffed?” I was told yes, because the position had already been posted more than once. The position was given to the external candidate and paid FOUR MORE dollars on the hour than me, and more then EVERYONE in our entire department. I believe this is because I am a female, because this manager is known for only hiring and promoting men.
