Unclear Role Expectations and Poor Interview Experience
I recently attended an interview for the Manual Tester role, but my experience was disappointing. The interviewer, a software engineer, seemed confused about the job role and kept asking if I had applied for an associate position, even though the job description clearly stated it was for a Manual Tester.
Additionally, the interviewer spent a significant amount of time asking irrelevant questions, such as who referred me to the position, instead of focusing on evaluating my skills and experience. The actual interview consisted of only three basic scenario-based questions, which I answered to the best of my ability and when I asked to share my screen for using notepad for scenario based questions as it happens in normal interviews, but was declined to share screen text editor. It felt like the interviewer was neither prepared nor equipped to assess someone for a manual testing role effectively.
This lack of clarity, combined with the unprofessional approach, made the overall experience frustrating. The company needs to ensure that interviewers are well-informed about the roles they are hiring for and focus on relevant technical assessments. It would improve the candidate experience and help the organisation attract and evaluate the right talent.
