I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Illumina in Feb 2010
Interview
The initial HR screen focused first on skills (positive!), but then quickly moved into a discussion of salary expectations. HR insisted on obtaining details from me about salary but would not/could not answer basic questions about the job, company structure, etc. HR told me I would go to the next step, but they refused to honor the next appointment presumably because I wanted to know more about the job before stating a range I would be comfortable with. HR not truthful. Very negative feeling about the company.

Interview
The HR did not explain much details in the recruiting process. Got rejected without explaining reason and did not even proceed to hiring manager stage. If my background did not match in the first place, why did HR bother arranging an interview in the first place?
The interview process was pleasant but with many breakout sessions. If you have a full-time job, a bit hard to schedule for all the interview sessions. Questions are a mix of technical and behavioral

Interview
This occurred at the Singapore branch of Illumina. They were seeking a scientist specifically for material characterization and with experience with thermogravimetric analysis. The interview was conducted online with 3 - 4 members with the hiring manager attending online. Despite answering their questions, they appeared disinterested throughout the whole interview session and seem to be reading questions off a binder. After the interview, I realized they updated their LinkedIn job description to include more details and notably, they required an "experienced" scientist which wasn't present previously.
