      Senior Site Reliability Engineer Interview

      17 Sept 2023
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Imperva in Aug 2023

      Interview

A Tale of Disorganization and Disrespect Key Takeaways: * First-round interview seemed promising Second-round interviewer was unprepared and questions were off-topic * Lack of professionalism in coordinating and respecting candidate’s time * No feedback given after 10 days of waiting, despite requesting it The Process: First Interview with Team Leader: The first interview lasted an hour and was very positive. We discussed roles, previous experiences and the tech stacks that the company is using. I was left with a good impression of the tech stack and leadership. Second Interview: The second interview was where things started to go downhill. The person conducting the interview had been with the team for only 1.5 years. Another person was supposed to join but never did. I was informed 40 minutes into the interview that the other person would not be joining us, without any reason or apology. The Questions: The questions in the second interview were largely irrelevant to the job description and the needs of a cloud company. For example, I was asked if I have ever coded in assembly and if I have worked in a physical data center, questions which were completely out of scope for the role I was applying for. Time Management: The second interview overran by 50 minutes, and the interviewer seemed indifferent to the fact that I had to leave due to work commitments. (Even tho I had to remind early that I need to get back to my work) The Outcome: After 10+ days, I was informed that they decided to proceed with another candidate. Despite requesting feedback, none was provided. Conclusion: While the first interview left me optimistic about the team lead and the role, the second interview significantly lowered my opinion of the company's recruiting process. The lack of preparation, irrelevant questions, and poor time management were red flags. The absence of feedback was the final straw, and I felt that the overall experience lacked professionalism and courtesy. Last note: I'm writing this review not to blame specific interviewers, as I understand that not everyone is trained in interview skills. My intention is to give a heads-up to a company as reputable as Imperva. If the organisation is interested in healthy growth, it would be beneficial to invest more resources into refining and improving the interview process.
