I applied online. I interviewed at J-PAL (Johannesburg) in Dec 2020
Interview
after submitting CV and transcripts and cover letter, successful applicants are contacted and asked to write a competency test. The test asks both quantitative (programming) and qualitative questions. If you pass the test you will be contacted for a first round interview. Then, if first interview is successful you will be invited to a final interview.

Question 1
what experiences do you have with impact evaluations?
3 interviews, relatively easy, one STATA test and motivation questions; the overall process was not really hard, knowledge of local context very appreciated.
Working here is sometimes stressful but a lot a meaning brings motivation.

Question 1
Personal background, education, knowledge about research topic
Indicative of poor working conditions. I was offered a part-time job requiring a full -time commitment, what a joke. They seemed more concerned about showing their grant providers that they are working than about the work itself.

Question 1
A written test (case study with questions) followed by a one-on-one interview.
