Terrible interview format with vague instructions and no structure. HR who arranged for this interview did not respect individual choice and time and kept calling me during working hours; not everyone has the luxury or the bandwidth to drop their current work and pick up an adhoc call with no email notification whenever you feel like it. Asked for interview format but was told extremely vague instructions (assess my skills) without telling me specifically in what format. I’ve had interviews where they at least tell me the format so that I can prepare in advance since not telling me the format means that I have to prepare all possible formats within a few days.
During the technical interview, the format kept jumping around technical questions, behavioral, and LLD. Was not told beforehand that this interview can use own AI tools at all and this came as a shocker to me, but what was more haphazardous was that I was only given 25 minutes to code up a fully working application in Java from my own code editor with my own AI tools in my own computer. Who the hell does that, let alone drop this cue without telling the candidate beforehand to prepare for these arrangements? At least give me the courtesy to let me prepare my PC for a development environment instead of dropping it mid-interview. Suffice to say, the interview went badly because my computer did not have a ready development environment to go and I have to spend precious interview time to install proper dependencies to set it up. No wonder HR mentioned that the slot was left vacant for over three months. 🙄
Do yourself a favor and give candidates a chance by providing them with a proper interview format on what to expect and a development environment to work on. You want competent people on the job? Fine, but the onus is on you to give your candidates a chance to prove themselves since tech companies will at least provide heads up for prospective candidates to prepare beforehand. I have never seen a technical interview that was mismanaged so badly by both non-technical and technical people alike in this company.

Was given a leetcode problem within the first 4 mins of the interviewer. Wish I was making this up. Interviewers did not really introduce themselves besides names, straight to the code problem. The interview felt extremely cold. No soul, no passion, no discussion
Asked very scripted questions and everyone took a lot of notes. I really enjoyed the people I spoke with and they really made me think about the role and my past
