I met with the recruiter to talk about the role, my experience, and the overall culture of the company/team I would be working with. Was light and brief, just getting to understand the company
I applied through university. I interviewed at Jam City (Burbank, CA)
Interview
There were three interview phases. The first was with a recruiter, the second was with a manager, and the final was with a studio lead. Very relaxed across the board.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
The asked specific questions about why I thought different strategic decisions were made in their games. I had to proposed a feature and talk about it.
I applied online. I interviewed at Jam City in Sept 2024
Interview
First round interview with a recruiter who quickly sent me through to next round. 2nd round interview was with a general manager, which was perfectly pleasant but not terribly helpful as he couldn't speak to any specific craft related issues around the job. Then they had me do a writing test which required me to play multiple hours of their mobile game then conduct the writing test. Honestly, a full day of work, if you include the research. Then... nothing. I reached out to my recruiter, got passed to another, then passed back. After a month of that runaround I just gave up. In all my career it's the only recruiting process that had me do as substantial amount of free work, and then ghosted me. So unprofessional. So insulting.
And for the record I have many years of experience in TV, games, and am currently working at a major AAA game studio, so this isn't about me being upset because I didn't get the job. It was a complete lack of respect for applicants and their time that I still feel is completely unacceptable.
