I applied through an employee referral. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Juniper Networks (Sunnyvale, CA) in Sept 2018
Interview
I was referred by my friend. Initially had a technical phone screening by one of the team member and next had one more phone interview with the hiring manager and then scheduled onsite interviews. Onsite interviews were around 5 rounds of half hour each. The interviews were good and i was pretty sure i would get an offer. The hiring manager told me that i would be hearing back from them in 2-3 days.
I did not hear back from them for atleast 4 days and i tried following up with them. I emailed the hiring manager couple of times but did not get response back. I was in a bit of hurry since i already have one offer with me but i was interested in this position. Then almost after 2 weeks, a recruiter contacted me and told me that the team was interested in taking me and asked me my salary expectations. I also asked her if she can expedite the process since USCIS is about to suspend the premium processing of H1-B and told her that i was interested in this position. As soon as she got to know that i am on H1-B, she started sounding a bit bitter. She told me that as premium processing is about to be suspended we will see if we have any other top choices and will let you know. I was so pissed off as she sounded like she wanted to select candidates based on immigration status and not based on talent. Again i did not hear back from her for the next 3 business days and i tried again to follow up but no response. After 4 days she called me and told that its better for me to go with the other offer as they targeted salary is almost 25% less than my existing offer and also told me that there immigration lawyers are not advising on taking H1-B candidates. I did not expect that Juniper will give me a low ball offer. After a week, manager called me and told me that they will offer sign-on of 3% and transfer my H1-B Even with the sign-on the offer was not even close to my other offer and i declined the offer.
Cleary the recruiter and the hiring manager are not in sync. I didn't want to go to a company which selects candidates based on immigration status and not based on talent.
VERY DISAPPOINTING....!!!
