      Technical Sales Engineer Interview

      20 Feb 2013
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Chicago, IL
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through a staffing agency. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Keyence (Chicago, IL)

      Interview

My initial communication was through a hiring service that suggested the position and was looking for engineering graduates. The first step was a technical aptitude assessment that I found very easy, about 45 minutes of basic logic and physics. The initial interview with Keyence was a week and a half later. It was a phone screening of about a half hour with a basic overview of past experience. It took nearly two weeks to hear of approval to move on to the webcam interview which was scheduled even later. The webcam interview was with a corporate recruiter and to be quite honest it was an awkward way of interviewing. The recruiter seemed far more interested in deciphering if you are truly excited about sales or not; NOT about your aptitude or willingness to work hard or your past experience. The webcam interview was rushed and if the recruiter felt that your answers got at the core of sales then he/she would side-track the conversation, often times interrupting you in the middle of an answer. If you REALLY want the job, you have to be 100% sales-oriented or at the very least act like it - honesty about tedious sales tasks or the slightest hesitation will be a 'no'. The entire process took about 2 months.

      Interview

It was difficult but if you study and know the product, you should do well. I ended up getting the job but it also depends on the location that you want to be in for the position.
