      Corporate Finance Specialist Interview

      Istanbul
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Koç (Istanbul)

      Interview

The interview process (first one) begins with an initial conversation with two directors. During this stage, they will focus on understanding your background, previous work experience, and the types of projects you have been involved in. If you successfully pass this stage, you will be invited to a second round, which is a technical interview with managers and directors. In the technical interview, be prepared to demonstrate strong knowledge of financial concepts. A key focus will be on the cash flow statement, particularly your ability to construct one using a balance sheet and income statement. You should also be ready to discuss how to calculate and interpret Free Cash Flow to the Firm (FCFF) and Free Cash Flow to Equity (FCFE). A solid understanding of the income statement—from top line to bottom line—is essential, and you should be able to walk through a Discounted Cash Flow (DCF) valuation verbally. Expect detailed questions about valuation and capital structure. For example, you may be asked how to estimate the Weighted Average Cost of Capital (WACC), starting from the U.S. risk-free rate and converting it appropriately for the Turkish Lira (TRY). Other potential questions include: what is the cost of debt, how to estimate a company’s beta (and whether it's close to 1), and what alternative sources of financing exist if a company does not use debt or equity. Additional technical questions may involve the significance of EBITDA, why it is important, and how capitalization (aktiflestirme) affects it. You should be prepared to explain what capitalization means and how it impacts EBITDA when certain expenses are capitalized rather than expensed. Understanding the implications of capitalization on profitability metrics is essential. They will also evaluate your motivation and personal fit. Be ready to answer questions such as: “Why this company?”, “Why corporate finance?”, “Why are you leaving your current job?”, and “What do you want to achieve in your career?” Lastly, take note of the company's professional dress code. If you are a man, being clean-shaven is required, and wearing a tie is expected.
