I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Lakera in Apr 2025
Interview
The head of engineering (aka the hiring manager) reached out to me on LinkedIn. The interview process consisted of an interview with the architect and the hiring manager. The HM interview included questions around the management role, while the architect question was about, well, architecting a project.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
* What kind of teams did you manage?
* What would the people you manage say if I asked them about you?
* Were you involved in hiring or letting go?
I applied online. I interviewed at Lakera (New York, NY) in May 2026
Interview
The recruiter reached out on a Saturday afternoon requesting availability for a call the following week. Given the unusual weekend outreach, I assumed there was urgency and responded within the hour, rearranging my schedule and blocking off significant work time to accommodate the conversation.
After several days of silence, I followed up Wednesday morning and received no response throughout the day. I withdrew my candidacy Wednesday evening, at which point I received an immediate reply apologizing for being “flooded with applicants.”
My decision to withdraw came down to the lack of communication and respect for my time. If external candidates are being actively engaged especially on a weekend, there should be clear follow-through and communication. A recruiter’s responsiveness and process management affects candidate experience. More importantly, it’s basic business etiquette — no matter your role, level or workload.
