MECHANICAL ENGINEERING 1st Round - Computer based Technical, Aptitude, LR & English. ~ Technical is easy, if you haven't mugged up things in your engineering. Although, few questions were equation based. ~ Rest is easy is you have prepared for CAT/GRE/ and similar tests. ~ Prepare both for & against arguments for hot topics like environment, automation, AI, Gender diversity etc. Prepare well, do not shout, speak clearly & make few but valid points. It matters a lot. ~PI - Was asked about internship (Power plant) & project work (welding, shaft design, Material Science) and follow up technical questions on the same as it had lot of similarities with what L&T does. Was asked about Centrifugal pumps & its theory in detail. Overall interview was great, they started off with easy questions and went in detail. Wherever I found that I could not answer the questions further I made them aware of it and they changed the topic. Side Notes: ~ In any PI, the interviewer is most likely to ask you questions from the the department he belongs. People will not ask you questions outside the textbook. Study well the common topics from HVAC cycles & applications, Welding theories, Basic FM, Types, key differences & working principle Of Turbines. Study topics related to centrifugal pumps & comps (plenty of good videos on YT), Power plant cycles. Study Fe-Fe3C Diagram in detail. Study failure theories very well. Pressure Vessel design is a must. Engg Drawing basics is a must. Study Mfg. process involved in making of Heat Exchangers & pressure vessels . Gear box, gear design, bearing types & life, shaft design, 1. Don not lie, If you do not know the answer, but would like to still attempt it, take their permission or make them aware of it. 2. Only you & you know about what you did in your internship & project work. Only tell about things you are confident to answer the follow up questions that may come up. If they ask you about higher studies tell them a) you are not financially well off and hence not aspiring for such things. They will try to make you convince that how it is a necessity and everyone is doing it. Then you should say that they will do it if company sponsors it in future or will do executive education after few years. Study well about what the company does & their competitors name.
