      Product Manager Interview

      22 May 2025
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Lev in May 2025

      Interview

First and Second Round with the CEO directly, which was an immediate red flag. The CEO is rebuilding the product team and looking to expand into new product areas. He doesn't seem to have a clear objective for this initiative or background in product. He didn't come to the table with prepared interview questions and mostly gave broad questions like "What do you think makes a product good or bad" and "How do you approach product management?". He often trailed off or didn't follow up when I was completing an answer so there were some awkward gaps in the interview. When asked about product market fit or measuring success, he wasn't able to give concrete answers. It seems like this role will be likely trying to manage the CEO's personal conviction for their vision for the product. Best of luck to anyone up to the challenge.

Hey, this is Yaakov — the CEO you interviewed with. Sorry to hear the interview didn’t feel great for you. Thankfully, the purpose of the interview is just as much for you to get a feel for Lev, as it is for Lev to get a feel for you. I do all the screenings for senior product roles because the role reports directly to me and I care a lot about who joins the team. You mentioned it was a red flag that the CEO did the interview. Are you suggesting that my time is more valuable than others? I don’t see it that way. Hiring great people is probably the most important thing I can do. You’re right that this role is about helping bring my product vision to life. That’s hard work—but it can be really rewarding, too. I try to keep interviews casual and focused on fit over rigid Q&A. Sometimes that lands well, sometimes it doesn't. Appreciate the feedback. Wishing you the best in your next steps.
