Where do I start?
I was super excited to interview for this brand which I have shopped at for many years.
When I virtually showed up for my initial interview, the person's reaction was "oh" when I turned on my camera, which set off alarm bells in my head, but overall the interview went well.
After following up, I was contacted for a second interview and was thoroughly excited. I went into the interview excited to share my vast experience, passion & knowledge for the role. During the interview, one of the interviewers keep staring at me and not smiling during the whole process, but this did not shake me.
Then they proceeded to throw trick questions on my industry knowledge which, of course, I answered because I AM qualified. They then asked, "what could I bring to a beauty brand" this question was not coming from a professional place.
Either way, I completed the interview, thanked them for the opportunity and waited to hear back.
No response after two weeks after asking for feedback. I then heard they decided to suspend the job. I have now noticed it's been reposted with the job description changed, and all the skills/qualifications I mentioned I have are now included.
I did/ do not want to think that unconscious bias exists and hoped I would never experience it, but this experience did not feel genuine from the minute I turned my camera on. I am glad that this opportunity was not for me, as I want to be in a space authentic to who I am in this world.
I am writing this review of my experience in hopes that those looking for work during these trying times realize that sometimes when you don't get that callback, it's the universe saying this environment is not for you.
