The application process involved extensive information, including personal information I was uncomfortable including on an initial application. It was required that applicants give permission to run credit reporting and contact references up front. I declined some of it and agreed to what I felt was normal for an initial application. The company contacted my references for information about me, but never contacted me at all. My references contacted me since usually the reference check happens right before an offer. None of them had even responded yet when I got a rejection letter a week later.
