      Product Manager Interview

      28 Apr 2013
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer

      Application

      I interviewed at Marin Software

      Interview

Interview process appeared to identify gaps and on-the-fly redesign of position definition and requirements. Interviewers not as well prepared as might be anticipated. No followup from recruiter after day long series of interviews, despite thank you notes and status inquiries after a couple of weeks. Expensive day for an interviewee in terms of time, time off work, not to be given the courtesy of a status. Whether or not a person is selected, if the candidate is willing to take a day off from their current job to come in for multiple interviews, it is not polite or professional not to even offer a "no thank you" message. Very disappointed in this lack of common courtesy or professionalism.

This is definitely not our process as we do understand how much time and effort goes into interviewing. I am very disappointed to learn this happened. Our goal is to ensure every person we interview walk away with a great experience. Clearly this was not the case for you and for that I apologize!

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Marin Software in Apr 2014

      Interview

I have applied for a PM position in London and I didnt get the job. Which would be completely fair, if the company would base their decision on the lack of appropriate skills or qualifications.. However, what they did was extremely disturbing and showed that they are incompetent and reckless. Here is why. All in all, there were 6 Interviews, each 1 hour long. It was with recruiter, manager, director and then 3 interviews with 3 subsidiary employees in their office. I wasted 6 hours plus weeks of preparations to hear that I am not a "native speaker" and thus "am not able to represent the company". (although the required language skills are way above average!) I would say, by the time of the first interview they KNEW exactly what my native language and other 4 languages I speak were, still they decided to waste my time and didnt offer me any language test. And BTW the native skills were not the part of the job description. There are many issues with the attitude of Marin Software, who try to be #1 in the market. 1. reckless towards their candidates - its not OK to waste time of people you dont want to hire in the first place. 2. denying someone a job because of the "wrong" native language (thus, ethnical origin) is discriminatory and is considered against low in Europe. 3. Sales Director was bashing his former employees in front of me, that "the former marketing manager was uncapable" and " we had one British guy apply, but he couldnt really speak the X language, he wasted our time!" - very unprofessional. 4. Marin didnt pay my expenses back and it is over 1,5 months now! 5. it seems like their HQ and local subsidiaries have contrary agendas, which is a bad sign for a long run.

Hello and thank you so much for sharing your experience here. We are very disappointed to read about your experience with us. It is common for job descriptions to change midstream of the recruitment process due to the business needs. I agree that any bashing of anyone is highly unprofessional and we will communicate this to our hiring managers and interviewers. With a fast growing company we work hard to improve our interview training. It sounds like you were a good candidate and hope you would consider us again.

The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Marin Software (San Francisco, CA) in Feb 2011

      Interview

Interviewed with one of the product managers that was very junior and then with the VP of product management. The VP seemed to want to pump me for information on a company I worked for that had a product that was similar to their product.

      Question 1

How do you determine the priority of features product releases?
