      Catalog page developer Interview

      12 Jul 2025
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at McMaster-Carr in Jun 2025

      Interview

I submitted my resume and cover letter and was immediately contacted by a recruiter for a phone interview. STAR questions. I then was within an hour invited on to the in-person interview. I was told there would be a page building exercise, then a tour, then another interview. I drove over an hour to have an in-person interview, where they could see me for the first time and clearly were surprised by my appearance based on the reactions of the front desk associate and the print publishing manager. I had the page building exercise in which I had an hour to build a catalog page from information in an Excel sheet. I built the page based on the information the manager gave me. I then was left in the conference room for almost 20 minutes waiting on the tour. I took the tour and was brought to the front desk with no mention of the interview that was supposed to follow. I was emailed shortly after that they'd decided to move on to other candidates. I lost out on PTO, time, and cost to get out there. I think the recruiters may be too overzealous
