Multiple phone calls with potential supervisor and team mate. The calls were all conducted on their personal cell phones, which was kind of odd to me, especially for a remote-first company. It seems video calls would really be the way to go. Never had communication with an HR person throughout the process so questions on benefits weren't really answered. Conversations with the employees were really great though, they asked good questions and shared a lot about the cultural, work flow, and overall expectations of the role. Updates throughout the process were very consistent. After a few calls, they said they were checking my references and "preparing an offer." They did contact my references but then a few days later, I received a generic rejection email from the dept. manager.
