      I interviewed at MentorcliQ

      Interview

I removed myself as a candidate immediately after the presentation portion of the interview. I typically view a presentation activity for an individual contributor Marketing position as a red flag; but was hopeful to have a good experience as the activity was positioned to learn my "ability to present and discuss" and to learn more about me as a person. However, I did have a negative experience as the questioning from a particular individual felt unjust and derogatory. Despite me having 7 years of marketing experience, I was questioned about basic comprehension, such as "explain to me what opportunity influence is" after I discussed influence results. I was also asked after 20+ minutes of presenting "what was the primary goal of this campaign?" Despite the title of the presentation being "renewal nurture", displaying a goals slide with customer Retention at the top, and talking at depth about the different areas of impact. It felt as though the interviewer was looking to test my basic comprehension while looking for a "gotcha" moment - rather than the proposed activity of seeing my style of presenting and discussion. While this person would not have been my manager, this was a red flag joining this organization as we would have needed a close partnership. However, the other two interviewers that I spoke with, including the CMO, were great and people who I believe I'd enjoy working with/learning from. Also, the recruiter was incredible. EDIT: The team handled this feedback perfectly - I could not have imagined a more open and respectful process following this review and my direct feedback. The VP of People Operations even offered to speak on the phone and has assured that the feedback would be constructively provided to this particular individual. They also offered ways to salvage my candidacy for the position. While I declined this offer, this really displayed a deep level of maturity for the organization and I'm honestly a bit bummed to have had the presentation experience that I had. If the interview process did not contain a presentation activity, I likely would have accepted an offer had they decided to make me one.

We're so sorry to hear you had a negative interview experience. This doesn't align with MentorcliQ's culture and it's not representative of how we aim to engage with candidates. We'll be delivering this feedback directly to the team to ensure this doesn't happen again.
