      Regional Program Coordinator Interview

      10 Jul 2018
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Chicago, IL
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Meraki (Chicago, IL) in Jun 2018

      Interview

HR Screen call about a week after I applied online went relatively well. I felt I could have done a little better, but was offered a second interview the next week with the Hiring Manager during the screen. Interview with Hiring Manager went well although our call cut out around the middle and we had to reconnect (more on that later). Was given a take home assignment that week that involved crafting an email to a new employee as well as creating a project plan for a set of events which was pretty easy although the deadline that I was given was unclear and I felt I had to hurry to finish up - it was like "due Thursday at midnight" which I felt could be taken as the end of Wednesday or the end of Thursday. This resulted in me rushing and, during my panel interview, was one of the things I got negative feedback on. Offered a final, 4.5 hour interview with 4 people that week so I felt pretty good about everything. Went to the space (its in an incubator) and was greeted by a different recruiter based in Chicago (everyone on the team is based in SF). Placed in a super hot and humid room with a videoconference system in it and spoke to all four people with a 15 minute break after the 2nd one. Felt I did well enough to get a job offer and left relatively happy. Sent a thank you note to the recruiters and the Hiring Manager and mentioned I would be out of town on vacation the rest of the week. They replied back with thank yous and that I would hear back next week. That was Tuesday. On Thursday, during my vacation that they knew about, I received a call and email saying that I didn't get the job. The recruiter called from a different number so I couldn't call her back and the email she sent me was a blanket statement, default rejection letter with a Subject of "Phone Interview Feedback." I wrote back asking for feedback, as I had ample experience in this type of role and felt I did well in my interviews, but heard from neither of them. I found this all incredibly rude and unprofessional. I spent a month of my time doing research on the company, working on the project I was assigned, and becoming very excited about joining this team. I felt very disappointed in their interview process. First, there is no need for the process to be this long for this role and second, they obviously lack professionalism or at least any type of sincerity when making decisions. A few notes: -Their phones, or the system they use to call you, is horrible. I've never experienced a phone interview where I could barely hear someone. I'm pretty sure it goes through WebEx and they might record it as well. During my call with the Hiring Manager, her WebEx dropped me and we had to reconnect, which took about 10 minutes. -There were a lot of repetitive "tell me about a time when..." questions during my final interview. It felt more like they were drilling me about my experience instead of seeing if I was a cultural fit. Only one person really tried to have a conversation with me, and after 3.5 hours of interviewing like the above, I wasn't really prepared to have a conversation so that threw me off a bit.
