      SVP, Chief Content Officer Interview

      29 Aug 2023
      Anonymous interview candidate
      New York, NY
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at Mission North (New York, NY)

      Interview

I debated posting something here as I’ve interviewed with tons of agencies over the years and never written a Glassdoor review about the experience, but this was a strange and frustrating one, and when I saw that somebody else had a bad experience I felt like maybe others interested should take note. A couple things that I’ll say: One - there were two major lies* that I was told during the process. The first was that if I made it to the “values” round that meant the people I met with felt confident about my experience and that at that point I should feel good about things. When I was told I didn’t get the job, I was told it was because I lacked experience in a certain area. This is something that they could have figured out before I kept going for six weeks, five interviews, and a 10+ hour unpaid assignment for an active client. Which brings us to “lie” number two. First I was told there would be a writing assignment. Then I was told there would not be be one. A few weeks later I was told that I needed to do a 10 page presentation (again, unpaid and for an active client…at a very senior level, which is a bit odd) and that I’d need to present to a large group of people. To be fair it seems like a good agency and it seemed like a great opportunity, but the interview process had me second guessing going into that final presentation. *I don’t think anybody intentionally lied to me, I just think the process was sloppy and a bit unprofessional, and s big part of that was a lack of consistency.

      Question 1

I don’t remember at this point. Mostly pretty standard stuff.

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback about your interview experience with us. We apologize for the longer-than-anticipated process and understand how this can be frustrating for candidates eagerly waiting for updates. The summer season, combined with the limited availability of some of our team members due to planned PTO, did indeed stretch our usual timeline. We are continuously working to refine our interview process, and your feedback is valuable in this effort. Please know that every candidate's experience matters to us, and we genuinely appreciate the time and effort you put into the interview process. We also heard your points on the presentation phase and will review for adjustments.

      Application

      Interview

Beware. I too debated posting my review on Glassdoor. When I realized other candidates were also exploited, I felt compelled to warn the larger community This company seems to be just another disingenuous agency that extracts free consulting on business challenges from executive-level candidates and claims it is part of the interview process. It seemed innocent at first. After two interviews, I was told I would be required to complete a written exercise to "understand my thinking." This written exercise was a thinly veiled extraction of my knowledge gained from years of experience in the content domain and took several hours of my personal time over a weekend. Following my submission, I was then asked to meet with the Co-CEOs who asked me about my responses. The company then ghosted me for 4 weeks, which is when I realized I had made an enormous mistake. Shame on me for participating in this sham. I am here to warn you against these practices. Companies that participate in these tactics are frankly duplicitous and should be held accountable in a public forum. Take my advice and don't hand over your expertise until you are hired. At the very least, ask to be paid for your time.
