I had two steps with firstly recruiter screen call only and then another call which is driven by technical recruiter. First session was just about what I am doing and am looking for. Second session was about some technical questions about database, concurrency
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
how to prevent concurrency problem in app level and database level
I applied online. I interviewed at Monzo Bank (London, England)
Interview
Rude interviewers, underprepared and fighting between each other during the interview.
Very slow process that easily spans multiple months.
The HR person who guides you through it might even misdescribe stages of the process.
Such a subpar execution of an interview process that I was left wondering whether they are actively trying to push people away.

Question 1
How would you design an API for this, but first tell me about different paging mechanisms, but first describe the UX as you intend it, but first tell me about database indexes.
I won't let you finish a phrase.
I will ask exactly the same 3 minutes from now.
I applied online. I interviewed at Monzo Bank in Mar 2026
Interview
Full interview process for a Senior SWE role.
The experience included a technical project review, pair programming, and a final stage for System Design and Behavioral assessment.
Early in the process, the role was re-leveled. This decision was communicated after limited technical interaction and before a comprehensive evaluation of my leadership background or career trajectory.
The System Design session utilized a pre-structured Figma template. This format directed the discussion toward a specific, pre-determined solution, which limited the opportunity to demonstrate broader architectural reasoning or trade-offs.
During the Behavioral interview, the atmosphere felt transactional. There was a notable lack of conversational engagement, and my responses were frequently abbreviated by the interviewers to meet strict time constraints.
The session concluded prematurely, leaving minimal time for candidate inquiries. While preparation materials are provided, the actual execution felt rigid and focused on internal checklists.
I would advise future candidates to be prepared for a highly structured environment (or avoid it) where leveling decisions may occur early in the cycle.
