      Android Software Engineer Interview

      Interview

In the initial screening, the recruiter asked me about my expected salary. Having communicated that she agreed that the company can afford this budget. After that, I had an Engineering Manager round and a live coding round which I cleared. Then, there was a set of 3 rounds, each on a separate day. The first of three rounds was Domain Deep Dive. At the time of the interview, I joined the call and after waiting for 5 mins, I emailed the recruiter to which, he replied, your interview has been postponed due to the interview's unavailability. He didn't even care to inform me rather he seemed to be waiting for me to ping him. Anyways, we rescheduled that round. The 2nd time, I again came on time prepared and at the time of the interview, the recruiter called me again that I'm sorry but we need to reschedule the interview. I started questioning the company's integrity. Just after that, another recruiter reached me that I'm really sorry for what happened. Would you like to continue? These kinds of immature actions really reflect the integrity of the company. Anyways, again we scheduled the interview for the 3rd time, and this time it happened again. They were literally PLAYING with me and my time. Finally, I was able to crack it 4th time. Anyways, after clearing all the rounds, the recruiter approached me that you have cleared all the rounds but our budget for this positions is maximum around 80% of what I asked for. I said but you first agreed with my budget. She said I'm sorry but this is what our HR team has decided. I asked her to talk again with the team to bring it up a little bit. To my surprise, in the next call, she told me that the max we can offer you is 75% of your budget. I was literally smiling. And one of the most vague reasons she gave was, inflation has gone so up therefore we have cut the budget. Cmon!!! within just 4 weeks, the inflation has risen that much that your budget has cut by 25% for which you committed to the candidate. My honest advice to all of you is, don't be a trap of this low-morale company. Now that they have grown bigger, they don't even consider candidates a human!!!

      Interview

The interview process is pretty straightforward and consists of multiple rounds, usually around four to five. You'll be asked to solve data structure and algorithm problems in the programming language of your choice. The questions are typically of medium difficulty, similar to what you'd find on LeetCode's mid-level challenges.

      Interview

Motive follows an unnecessarily long and drawn-out interview process, consisting of the following stages: 1. HR screening 2. Hiring Manager interview focused on work experience and relevant questions 3. LeetCode-style data structures and algorithms round 4. System design round 5. Take-home assignment 6. Final round discussing the assignment and additional technical topics While the interviewers are generally friendly and supportive, the HR process needs significant improvement. There are often gaps of 4–5 days between rounds, during which no updates are provided—you’re expected to follow up yourself. Their communication is minimal and unresponsive, and they fail to offer feedback after each round, which should be a standard practice. Instead, candidates are left on hold for days or weeks, only to be rejected without clarity or closure. They need to work on this part.
