I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Mott MacDonald (Liverpool, England) in Dec 2019
Interview
About one hour long. In front of two people (senior engineers). Mostly strength based questions (around 12) such as:
- Would you prefer to work on your own or as a team.
- Tell me about your greatest achievement.
- What skill are you currently trying to improve and how.
- How would you deal with a set back.
Followed by three technical questions at the end:
- Draw the bending moment for a portal frame with a single point load.
- Where would you put the steel reinforcement in a cantilever. Also draw the bending moment for a cantilever with a point load and a cantilever with a UDL.
- The last question was something along the lines of: You have a two storey building, how would you provide the building with stability in each direction. (e.g. you could provide the building with bracing).

Question 1
What skill are you currently trying to improve and how?
I interviewed at Mott MacDonald (Cambridge, England)
Interview
There were four sections in the interview.
First, About myself, motivation and my interest in the role that I was applying for.
Second, Technical questions including shear force and bending moment equations and diagrams for beams and a statically Indeterminate arch.
Third, Strength based questions using examples of past experiences.
Fourth, An opportunity to ask questions back to the interviewers.
I applied online. I interviewed at Mott MacDonald (Pensacola, FL)
Interview
During the 30-minute video call interview with two Structural engineers, the first half primarily delved into my professional experience and skills. In the latter half, we explored broader, more general topics.
They had two interviews. The people were helpful and friendly. Overall the interview process went really smoothly. I would definitely recommend applying to that company. I got a couple of offers from other companies, but I think they are a great comapny.
