My intelligence was insulted on a new level. Two executives from Multimedia Solutions questioned the validity of my resume, which I believe to be impressive for a marketer of over 7 years, but realistic. Spoiler alert: everything on my resume is true, valid, and real. In the same sentence before that ridiculous insult, they told me I was one of the best candidates they've ever interviewed. Talk about mixed signals. Additionally, I had freelance work on my resume (I was told my a professional career coach to include this, as it shows I am still keeping up my skills after being part of a large company layoff) and was told that I "could not be trusted" to not work freelance during normal work hours. Any professional who also does freelance work knows the importance of separating the two, being truthful, and giving your 110% to your day job. You focus on your own work AFTER hours, simple. Now you might think, "isn't freelance work a conflict of interest when you work for an agency?" I don't blame you for thinking that, I would too. However, the freelance work I do is light content creation for a local family-owned hair salon and a local family-owned pizza place in my home town, which I clearly stated to these executives interviewing me. Multimedia Solutions works with Fortune 100 companies across the country, I don't see this as a conflict of interest, do you? And another kicker (this one really added insight into the company culture for me), they told me I "shouldn't have any time" in my life for freelance work if I had a job with them. So, this tells me they want to control their employees' time outside of working hours. They claimed "you should be too busy for freelance, and your mental power should be focused on our clients." Well, when you pay me from 9-5, then during those 9-5 hours, I am focused on your clients. Any time after the workday is done is my own time. How dare you try to dictate what I can and cannot do with my life and career. And for an insanely low salary, I might add. Furthermore, the two executives chuckled after I told them I was laid off from my last company, and proceeded to tell me if they had a candidate like myself, they would never have laid me off. They insinuated that I was not laid off, and rather fired. Which again, is not true and I have multiple references from that company to prove it. My interview experience and the way the company culture was described made me want to run for the hills. Don't bother wasting your time with these unprofessional and unethical people. Read the interview review from July 21, 2023 for the Digital Marketing Manager position - that also resonates with my experience here.
