I applied through an employee referral. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at NBCUniversal (Los Angeles, CA) in Jan 2015
Interview
Hired as a freelancer based on my resume and work experience, plus a recommendation. Interview was brief. This may be more involved now, but the basic idea was that once hired on a weekly basis, you would sink or swim, so it was not very involved and my resume showed a lot of experience.
Friendly, average conversations and interview questions.
Experience-based questions to learn more about your background.
"Tell us about a time when ..."
Different team members interviewed me on different days, first recruiter, then manager, then team members.
I applied online. I interviewed at NBCUniversal (London, England) in Aug 2025
Interview
The initial sift was laid back, quite conversational. The interviewer wanted answers to all the expected questions, eg. why do I want to work at NBCU and what I can bring to the team.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Strangely, the interviewer asked what route I'd take to the newsroom. I'd never been asked that before and hadn't really thought about it! I'd advise future interviewees to consider this, as I think the interviewer wanted to know if I had really thought it all through.
It was a very standard interview. They asked about strengths and weaknesses and past experiences. Was fairly short. It was over a video call. I knew it didn't go well.
