Screening call with TA, then initial interview with hiring manager. They were relatively quick to schedule a screening call. The screening call went well but I felt that answers to my questions weren't very concrete especially around company culture, and lack of flexibility around hybrid working. The interview with the hiring manager was really flat. They showed up 12 minutes late to the interview, there was no enthusiasm whatsoever, and they had clearly not read my CV based on several comments made about my current work situation. Nevertheless I was invited to the final round of interviews to present a case study. They were flexible enough to do it over Teams (it was supposed to be in-person), but then came the flash of true colors: I unexpectedly fell seriously ill in the week of my interview (even being admitted to hospital). I reached out to TA to ask if they could move my interview, and while they were able to move it back by a day, there was not a single word of well wishes from them. I ended up simply not being well enough to do the last interview, & had comms with other companies who were far more empathetic, so I elected to cancel the interview. I explained the situation & thanked TA & HM for their time, in reply, I simply got a notification that they'd cancelled the interview - no reply of 'good luck with your search further' or 'get better soon'. All in all, that was a bullet dodged. Not a great sign of the work culture at New Balance at all.
