I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Norfolk Southern in Mar 2012
Interview
We were about 10 applicants for this internship position(operations research) at that day.The process began by a GRE type verbal test. After that a lady from HR gave us the written test which was composed of OR, STAT and IQ questions. Tests were all easy and I did a great job. Then the HR person interviewed us one by one. I was the fifth person. It took about 10-15 minutes and some easy questions and not technical at all. I was expecting to be interviewd by some people from OR department but the lady told me the managers are very busy today and we will get back to you about the results in a week. When I got back to hotel to pack and check out, I saw two other applicants who had interview that same day for this position. Surprisingly they both had three interviews, two of which with the OR department and I was shocked. I don't know why they have such a stupid interview process because at the time she(HR person) interviewed me they did not have the result of my previous two tests (GRE verbal and technical written tests) because right after I finished my written technical test and I notified her, she collected my test sheet and asked me to follow her to another room and interviewed me and therefore no one (neither she nor the OR people) had the chance to look at my test results to make a decision and deny me the 2nd and 3rd interviews!
Therefore when I understood the other two applicants had three interviews, while checking out from the hotel, I knew that I'm not going to be selected. You can possibly guess what was my feeling at that time. Flying to Atlanta from another state and being denied an interview with the department you have applied for without any specific reason! My experience with this company was very negative and they just wasted two days of my life. I personally do not recommend Norfolk Southern for any type of internship or full time job to anyone. Those people (or at least the ones related to these interviews) are not professional and I might say even insulting. Don't waste your time and effort for this company.
First, the HR team and then behavioral and technical questions related to the job description. It's a moderate interview process and can be handled by knowing the details of your resume and their job description.

Question 1
Behavioral and technical questions related to the job description
I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Norfolk Southern (Atlanta, GA) in Mar 2017
Interview
The interview consisted of a test with technical questions (e.g., optimization modeling, SQL, algorithm complexity) and then two one-on-one interviews. One of the interviewers focused on specific technical questions (i.e., OR and SQL-related) while the other focused on my background in general (e.g., "tell me about yourself" kind of questions).
