I applied through other source. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Northwestern Mutual (Clayton, MO) in Jan 2013
Interview
long and they will not tell you all the things they will charge you. They tell you what you want to hear about your personality. They tell everyone the same story. They hire a certain number of people and they believe out of quantity you will get quality. They will ask you to get a list of all your friends and family. This list will be entered into their system. Northwestern mutual now has all your contacts. Additionally they will hire you and have you sell to your warm market and yourself. They will ask you to refer anyone you know and you have to refer two people a week to them so that they can get more people through the door to get their contacts.
There were four or five interviews, if you count the meeting with my future mentor. There were also a few personality assessments. Lots of paperwork. The finance industry is tightly regulated.
The first interview was easygoing and went fairly well. We talked a little on myself and what northwestern was all about. Because they wanted to see how I could fit in to their team and what I would bring.

Interview
The process was smooth and straight forward. A lot of behavioral based questions, but relaxed and low stress. First phase is a phone screening followed by a teams or in person meeting.
